Structural Focus is a structural engineering firm based off of Gardena, CA with about 13 years of business experience. They have designed countless of regional as well as historic structures! Mr O’Connell will discussing what a structural engineer (SE) is and what SE’s do for structural engineering firms. He will also go over a project that his firm has worked on.

Our guest speaker will be Francisco Garcia from FJ Engineering. His company provides structural consulting and services towards custom residential, commercial construction, seismic retrofit, seismic inspections, and more. Francisco is also on the Board of Directors for SEAOSC. Along with him being the liaison between the SEAOSC YM Committee and the SEAOSC Board.

Have you heard of the Wilshire Grand Tower currently in construction in Los Angeles? Upon completion, the tower will be the tallest building west of the Mississippi and the tallest in the United States outside of NYC and Chicago! SEACPP is happy to announce President Gerard Nieblas of Brandow and Johnston, Inc. will be speaking at our next general meeting in regards to the design of the tower. Don’t miss it!

Our guest speaker is Yoga Chandran from CH2M Hill. Yoga will be speaking about the highly controversial SR710 project and the politics involved. A 4.2 mile long tunnel bore alternative is the center of all the local controversy. He will conclude with a presentation on the Golden Ears Bridge Project to discuss a very innovative foundation design.

Our guest speaker that day will be CPP alumni, Albert Lopez. He is currently chairman of the SEAOSC YM commitee and remains an active member of SEAOSC.

He currently works for Make It Right Inc., which is a structural engineering firm that focuses on making and improving hospitals to become seismically safe. Albert has 9 years of engineering under his belt with both building design and M.E.P seismic design experience.

A big thanks to everyone that came out to our first general meeting!

We’re excited for the upcoming year and it was great to see the turnout on Tuesday. We hope to see everyone again throughout the year!

This weeks meeting just consisted of general introductions of the officers and some explanations on what SEACPP has to offer to everyone this year.

Just as a reminder, SEACPP has general meetings every Tuesday on the even weeks.
